PROTEST IN KENYA OVER DEATH OF BLOGGER

Violent clashes erupted in downtown Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday as protesters demonstrated against the death of blogger Albert Ojwang while in police custody.

Riot police confronted demonstrators, leading to injuries and property destruction. Ojwang had been arrested on June 6, transported 400 kilometers to Nairobi, and accused of defaming Deputy Inspector General Eliud Langat, Kenya’s deputy police chief.

Although Langat stepped aside on Monday, he did not acknowledge being the complainant. Police initially attributed Ojwang’s death, which occurred two days after his arrest at the Central Police Station, to him “hitting his head against the cell wall.” However, this claim has been directly refuted by a pathology report, fueling calls for further investigation.
